文档简介IntroductionThisApplicationNoteisthesecondinaseriesrelatingtotheeQCM10MandassumesthatyouhavereadandunderstandthematerialcoveredintheApplicationNote,BasicsofaQuartzCrystalMicrobalance.ThepurposeofthisApplicationNoteistoshowthereaderasimpleexperimentwherewereduceCu2+ontoanAuelectrodeandthenoxidizeCubackoff.Wewillthenusetheresulttocalculateacalibrationfactorforthecrystal.Conversely,wewillshowyouhowtocalculatethemolarmassofthespeciesdepositedusingacalibrationfactor.Eachcrystalhasatheoreticalcalibrationfactor,however,undertypicalexperimentalconditions,thesecalibrationfactorswillvaryslightly.WewilluseCu2+tocalculateacalibrationfactorwhichcouldthenbeusedinsubsequentexperimentsonthesamecrystal.Cu2+isreducedinatwoelectronreactionasshownbelow:CuSO4(aq)+2e-→Cu(s)+SO42-(aq)OurgoalistoreduceCu2+ontoanAuelectrode,thenusethefrequencydecreaseandthechargepassedtocalculateacalibrationfactor.
