Effects of microwave radiation on the expression of p27mRNA in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Abstract:AIM To observe the expression of p27mRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma cell so as to study the proliferative mechanisms of microwave radiation on hepatocellular carcino-ma cell.METHODS A hepatocellular carcinoma cell strain which can express p27protein stably was divided into control(non-irradiation),10mW·cm-2 ,20mW·cm-2 and30mW·cm
-2 groups.The four groups were radiated for1hour in a shielded room by2450MHz(continuous wave)mi-crowave physiotherapy machine.The cell proliferative effect was examined by MTT and RT-PCR was used to detect the expression levels of p27mRNA in heptaocellular carcinoma cells.Positive signals were scanned for gray density and RNA expressing index was calaulated.RESULTS The re-sults of MTT test revealed that microwave radiation could in-hibit the proliferation of hepatocellular cell line in a dose de-pendent manner.Microwave radiation could upregulate the expression of p27mRNA in a dose dependent manner.CON┐CLUSION These results indicated that the inhibitory effect of microwave radiation on the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma cells might result from up-regulating the expres-sion of p27mRNA.
